“I have Fought the Good Fight, I have Finished the Race, I have Kept the Faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Sparring is an important part of Martial Arts Training. Good Fight Martial Arts Uses light contact only and can be compared to a game of “tag” designed to help students use and improve their karate skills. It is therefore very important that the student adhere to the following rules:
Students must demonstrate the utmost control when sparring
The person a students spars against is not an opponent, but a partner.
Students are responsible for their partner’s safety.
All students who participate in sparring must be protected by a minimum of double mouth guard, headgear, gloves, and boots. Males are required to wear an athletic cup and supporter. Females are required to wear chest protectors. Additional protection of shin guards, chest and groin pads, and face guards are recommended.
Students are not permitted to contact their partner’s face if unprotected by face gear.
When the instructor calls “point” or stop students will immediately stand apart for further instruction.
Students using excessive contact will be given a verbal warning.
Students who abuse the sparring opportunities will be asked to sit out for the rest of the class with a conference (parental and student if under 18) following.
Continued infractions may result in the student being graded down on test (sparring and attitude scores), losing the right to test for a session, or being expelled from the class. When the rules are followed and your sparring partner is shown respect sparring can be a great tool to improve motor skills, self-control and a great way to have some safe fun.
